SAPS bust dagga dealers in Vaal Park, Sasolburg

December 17, 2024

A joint operation by the South African Police Service (SAPS) has led to the disruption of a large-scale dagga operation in Vaal Park, Sasolburg.

On Sunday; 15 December, Warrant Officer Nel and Sergeant Van der Walt, while following up on information regarding Pakistani foreign nationals dealing in illicit cigarettes, discovered a house in Vaal Park, Sasolburg, where dagga was being cultivated and processed into cigarettes.

The dagga was then vacuum-packed for distribution. During the operation, two suspects were arrested and a large quantity of dagga, packaging equipment and growing lights were confiscated. The estimated value of the confiscated dagga and equipment is approximately R3 million.

“The SAPS is committed to disrupting and dismantling the illicit drug trade in our communities. Said the Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Baile Motswenyane. “We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those involved in the production and distribution of illicit substances are brought to justice.” Concluded the Provincial Commissioner.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Sasolburg Magistrates’ Court soon.
