De Deur SAPS, lead anti-substance abuse awareness campaign in Lakeside Estate
On Tuesday,18 February, De Deur SAPS, in collaboration with the Department of Community Safety, Siyabangena Patrollers and Crime Prevention Wardens, embarked on a comprehensive door-to-door awareness campaign in Lakeside Estate.
The primary objective of this far-reaching initiative was to enlighten the community about the perils of substance abuse and its devastating repercussions. The community was educated that substance abuse encompasses not only the illicit use of narcotics but also the excessive consumption of alcohol and the misuse of prescribed or over-the-counter medications.
Furthermore, it was emphasized that substance abuse has far-reaching, deleterious consequences that can negatively impact one’s professional, academic domestic and interpersonal relationships. Moreover, it can lead to entanglements with the law and severe health complications.
The community was also sensitized to the existence of various NGOs in the area, which offer support and guidance to recovering addicts and those seeking assistance in overcoming substance dependence.
