Safety first: SAPS hosts crime awareness drive in Ward 8

Captain Mokeke Elisa Tsotetsi of Meyerton SAPS held a community meeting at Mafenyatlala in Midvaal, Sector 1, Ward 8.

The initiative aimed to address the community on crime-related issues and the contributing factors behind them. Ensuring the safety of the community remains a priority for the station, and SAPS is committed to working hand in hand with the community. Captain Tsotetsi highlighted the importance of stakeholders such as the Community Policing Forum (CPF). Herman Rufus Mothomoholo, Chairperson of Sector 1 and the ward councillor, Mr Ndebele, were also present. They emphasised the importance of unity in fighting crime, which affects everyone.

Operational Commander Captain Mthimkulu addressed contact crimes affecting the area, while Captain Tsotetsi, who also serves as the Social Crime Prevention Commander, focused on Gender-Based Violence (GBV). She introduced the Siyabangena Patrollers and Brigades from the Department of Community Safety, elaborating on their roles in supporting community safety.

Additional topics included human trafficking, the establishment of CPF structures and street committees, as well as winter safety tips to prevent veld fires. She urged parents to educate children on the dangers of playing with fire and proper candle safety.
