Midvaal lights up over 1 200 Sicelo homes

Midvaal Local Municipality has successfully completed the electrification of over 1,200 households in Sicelo, at a total cost of more than R18 million.

This multi-year, phased project began in 2023 and reached completion in June 2025. It included the construction of an 11 kV (MV) and a 420 V (LV) overhead network, overhead house connections, and the installation of meters and ready boards.

In total, 1,228 households were connected to the electricity grid across four phases: 474 in Phase 1321 in Phase 298 in Phase 3335 in Phase 4Residents now enjoy safe, reliable electricity a vital step in uplifting the community and improving quality of life. The new infrastructure has also led to the removal of illegal connections, significantly reducing the risk of electrocution while helping the municipality curb electricity losses and boost revenue.

As part of the project, the contractor invested approximately 30% of the final contract value into empowering local Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) reinforcing our commitment to invest local, buy local, and empower local.
