Meyerton SAPS launch manhunt for Springfield Secondary School robbery suspects

A 66-year-old school staff member was attacked and robbed by three armed suspects at Springfield Secondary School late on Thursday night, 2 October. According to reports, the victim was in the school cottage around 11:30 pm when three men forced their way inside.

The suspects, all believed to be African males, had their faces covered with balaclavas and were wearing gloves. They were armed with pangas and a knobkierie. The men overpowered the victim and demanded keys to the staff room. When he informed them that he did not have the keys, they allegedly assaulted and stabbed him. He sustained multiple injuries and was later taken to a local clinic for medical treatment.

Before fleeing the scene, the attackers tied the victim’s hands with shoelaces and stole several items from the staff room, including: Three LG computers valued at R18,000, Samsung refrigerator valued at R25,000, LG microwave valued at R5,000 and Bennett kettle valued at R400 all amounting to R48,400.

The suspects, who spoke Southern Sotho, remain at large. Police are investigating a case of armed robbery and assault.
