Sedibeng Disaster management leads Disaster Risk Reduction Drive at Rata-Setjhaba Primary School

Sedibeng Disaster management, Meyerton SAPS together with SAPS Social Crime Prevention, marked the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (DDRR) with an outreach programme at Rata-Setjhaba Primary School on 25 November 2025. Held under the theme “Fund Resilience, Not Disaster,” the event aimed to empower young learners while supporting vulnerable families.

The school was among those selected within the Midvaal Municipality to commemorate DDRR. As part of the initiative, 100 pairs of school shoes were donated to learners, sponsored by Liberty Life, bringing hope and dignity to children in need. Sedibeng Disaster Management PEAU representative Emma Modimola emphasized the spirit of the day, saying, “Building resilience starts with supporting our children. When we invest in them, we strengthen the entire community.”

The programme featured speeches from various stakeholders who addressed learners on safety, disaster preparedness and the importance of community collaboration. Representatives from Sedibeng Disaster Management, the Department of Education, Midvaal Social Services, the Midvaal Traffic Department, the Department of Community Safety Brigades, SAPS, the FCS Unit, Liberty Life, Siyabangena and the school’s management highlighted the need to prioritise proactive measures rather than reacting to crises.

The event underscored the collective responsibility of government, private organisations and communities to protect young people and build a safer, more resilient society.
