R2-billion Soufflet Malt investment set to drive growth in Sedibeng

Midvaal Local Municipality, led by Executive Mayor Ald Peter Teixeira, today attended the Soufflet Malt South Africa groundbreaking ceremony in Sedibeng, where details of the malting plant investment were outlined.

In a statement issued by the municipality, the Soufflet malting plant was described as strengthening the brewery and agro-processing value chain, with a focus on innovation and technology.

“This investment into our region is a bold strategic step towards a future driven by innovation and anchored in technology,” Teixeira said.

It is expected to contribute to economic growth, job creation and long-term community development. The malting plant is also expected to stimulate local businesses by sourcing materials and services from nearby suppliers, including both commercial and emerging farmers.

“The project will boost economic activity by supporting local suppliers and farmers,” He said.

According to the municipality, the investment is expected to support a shift towards industrialisation in Midvaal, which has a strong agricultural base.

“It is a catalyst to move the area towards industrialisation while building on its agricultural strengths,” he explained.

The investment was also described as a sign of confidence in the region, highlighting an environment that supports business, innovation and inclusive economic growth.

“It reflects confidence in the region and its commitment to inclusive economic growth,” he added.

The municipality said it remains committed to creating an environment that attracts investment and creates opportunities for communities in the area.
