Midvaal School Safety Cycle Tour 2026 promotes crime awareness

The 2026 Midvaal School Safety Cycle Tour was launched in Meyerton under the leadership of the community safety forum, stakeholders and the South African Police Service, focusing on crime awareness among secondary school learners. The annual initiative aims to promote safer school environments by addressing crime-related challenges affecting learners.

The programme, themed “Crime is Not Cool,” targets issues such as drugs, bullying, gangsterism, initiation-related violence, learners selling drugs to peers, bunking classes and the possession of dangerous weapons in schools. Organisers stressed the importance of building a safer future through awareness and encouraging positive lifestyle choices among young people.

Guest speakers Moss Makwati and Mandla Mbatha shared messages of hope, recovery and responsible living, highlighting the dangers of substance abuse, teenage pregnancy and crime-linked behaviour. The session also promoted principles of basic correct living and personal discipline.

The initiative was supported by government departments, community organisations and partners working together with Midvaal Local Municipality to enhance school safety and youth protection.
