Suspect in R113 million Evaton stand fraud case appears in court today

March 12, 2026

The South African Police Service (SAPS) arrested a 51-year-old man in connection with a fraud case involving the alleged unlawful sale of government-owned stands in Evaton.

The case was opened in 2019 by the Department of Human Settlements after the discovery that government stands had allegedly been sold illegally.

According to police, each stand was reportedly sold for R22,000, with payments deposited into a business account linked to an entity owned by the suspect.

Preliminary investigations indicate the Department suffered an estimated financial loss of R113 million.

An intensive investigation by the Gauteng Commercial Crime Investigation Unit led to the suspect’s arrest on yesterday, 11 March.

The suspect appeared before the Commercial Crime Court in Pretoria today
