Big boost for power supply as Midvaal launches R47 million project
Midvaal Local Municipality has officially commenced construction of a R47 million substation aimed at increasing electricity capacity and improving distribution.
The project includes the construction of a substation terrace, installation of an earth mat, and the construction of plinths and foundations in accordance with Eskom standards. Construction will further include an 88kV control room, fully equipped with the required ventilation systems and safety signage.
In addition, 11kV switching rooms, a control room, and a load control room will be built as part of the project.
An oil-holding dam for the 88/11kV transformers will also be constructed in line with Eskom standards.
The substation project entails the full supply, delivery, installation, testing, commissioning, and handover of the facility, including all auxiliary equipment.
In line with the Municipality’s commitment to local economic development, 10 local SMMEs have been appointed, benefiting from opportunities in various trades such as bricklaying, supply, and delivery.
The project is also creating jobs, with at least 26 local labourers expected to benefit by the end of construction.
Accredited training was offered to all local workers on-site across various fields, including bricklaying, plumbing, plant operation, and occupational health and safety, to enhance their skills.
The construction of this substation reaffirms our commitment to improving infrastructure and ensuring access to basic services for all our communities.
