Decomposed body found in reservoir at Meyerton construction site

Police have opened an inquest after the decomposed body of an unidentified man was discovered inside a water hammer tank at a construction site in Boltonwold, Meyerton.

The grim discovery was made Yesterday,13 May, at about 03:45 PM in Pump Street.

According to information received from the scene, the body was found inside the reservoir in an advanced state of decomposition, with only skeletal remains and clothing still visible.

Authorities said the construction site had reportedly not been operational for more than a year, leading investigators to suspect the body may have been inside the tank for an extended period.

Police were unable to immediately determine the victim’s age, race or identity, and it remains unclear how the deceased entered the reservoir.

Meyerton SAPS Communication Officer Constable Nompumelelo Zazini confirmed that an inquest docket has been opened and investigations are continuing.

“We appeal to anyone who may have information that could assist police in identifying the deceased or tracing the circumstances surrounding the incident to come forward,” said Zazini.
