Kookrus sewer upgrade project set to begin
Residents of Kookrus will soon be connected to Midvaal’s municipal sewer network as construction gets underway on a long-awaited sewer line extension project aimed at replacing ageing septic tank systems.
MMC for Engineering Services Cllr Reginald Hubbard met with residents during a public engagement on Thursday evening, 9 July to outline the project, which will be carried out along Danie Bezuidenhout, Eric Louw and Sangero streets.
The upgrade will see approximately 300 metres of new sewer pipeline installed, allowing affected households to transition from septic tanks to the municipal sewer system. Construction is expected to commence shortly and is scheduled for completion within one month.
“This project represents an important investment in improving essential infrastructure and ensuring residents have access to a reliable municipal sewer service. We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation while these upgrades are carried out,” said Hubbard.
The municipality said the public meeting provided residents with an opportunity to learn more about the project, ask questions and prepare for the construction period.
Once completed, the new sewer infrastructure is expected to improve sanitation services and reduce the maintenance challenges associated with ageing septic tank systems in the area.
