Emfuleni former fleet manager arrested over R16m tender fraud

Former Fleet Manager at the Emfuleni Local Municipality has been arrested in connection with an alleged R16 million vehicle fleet tender fraud and corruption case.

The 42-year-old suspect was arrested by the Gauteng Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) and is expected to appear in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 20 July 2026, at 09:00.

According to investigators, the case relates to the awarding and implementation of a municipal fleet tender for the supply of 18 vehicles, including UD trucks and bakkies. It is alleged that the municipality paid approximately R16 million to the appointed service provider, despite only seven of the contracted vehicles being delivered.

Police allege that the full contract amount was paid even though 11 vehicles were never supplied, resulting in significant financial prejudice to the municipality.

A police spokesperson said the arrest demonstrates law enforcement’s commitment to holding those involved in corruption accountable.

“We remain committed to investigating allegations of corruption and ensuring that those responsible for defrauding the state are brought before the courts,” the spokesperson said.

The investigation is continuing, and authorities have indicated that further arrests have not been ruled out as the probe progresses.
