Sebokeng awards spotlight African healing and indigenous knowledge

August 14, 2026

Traditional health practitioners, Indigenous Knowledge custodians, innovators and community leaders were recognised on 8 August, at the 8th Annual African Traditional Medicine (ATM) and Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) Honorary Awards hosted by eNet Health South Africa Official NPC in Sebokeng Zone 7.

The event recognised individuals and organisations contributing to the preservation, development and advancement of African Traditional Medicine and Indigenous Knowledge Systems.

The programme included traditional medicine and Indigenous Knowledge exhibitions, community engagement, networking and the presentation of honorary awards to individuals and organisations demonstrating excellence in their respective fields.

Among those recognised was Makhosi Vulamasango Mutwa, representing the legacy and vision associated with the late Baba Credo Mutwa. The recognition acknowledged work in African Traditional Medicine, Indigenous Knowledge Systems, sciences, African callings and innovation.

Temangcamane also participated in the event, highlighting natural products, traditional healing, community empowerment and knowledge rooted in African culture.

eNet Health said the awards were “not simply an annual celebration, but a growing platform for recognition, collaboration, cultural preservation and African excellence.”

Following the Sebokeng event, preparations are under way for the 9th ATM/IKS Honorary Awards, scheduled for August 7, 2027, in Meyerton, Gauteng.

The 2027 awards will recognise Initiation Schools, Traditional Health Practitioners, Indigenous Knowledge custodians, IKS innovators, researchers and medical practitioners.

eNet Health is calling on sponsors, exhibitors, academic institutions, businesses, government institutions, traditional structures, NGOs, health-sector stakeholders and community organisations to partner with the 2027 awards.
