Fatal R59 collision leaves one dead, two injured
A fatal collision on the R59 between Sasolburg and Vereeniging left one person dead and two others moderately injured on Thursday morning, 27 August.
According to a traffic alert issued by Mr S.S. Towa, a light motor vehicle collided with a heavy motor vehicle, which caught fire following the crash.
One person was declared dead at the scene, while two others sustained moderate injuries.
The collision initially resulted in the closure of the R59 to allow authorities to conduct investigations, clear the scene and recover the vehicles.
In an update issued at approximately 09:06, authorities confirmed that one lane had been reopened, with traffic being controlled through the affected section of the road.
Motorists travelling between Sasolburg and Vereeniging are urged to approach the area with caution, expect possible delays and follow instructions from law enforcement officials on scene.
The circumstances surrounding the collision are subject to investigation.
