Henley on Klip residents urged to strengthen fight against crime

Crime prevention in Henley on Klip will depend on residents, police and local safety structures working together and staying alert, Meyerton SAPS told the community during a safety engagement on Wednesday, 10 September.

Meyerton SAPS Station Commander Colonel Senzangakona Christopher Mohale delivered the message during a community engagement at the Henley on Klip Bowling Club.

The engagement brought police and community members together to discuss crime prevention, domestic violence, femicide and safety concerns affecting the area.

Meyerton SAPS Social Crime Prevention representatives used the meeting to raise awareness about domestic violence and the assistance available to victims through the Victim Friendly Room at Meyerton Police Station.

Residents were informed that Agape Lerato Community Service provides free support services, including psychosocial assistance, awareness programmes and individual and family counselling.

Sector 2 manager Sergeant JH Wiese, who is responsible for Henley on Klip, addressed factors contributing to crime and highlighted periods when residents should be particularly vigilant.

Residents were warned against opening their homes to strangers and encouraged to regularly check that security alarms and other safety measures are working properly.

Police also encouraged residents employing people at their properties to conduct appropriate background checks and verify identification and other relevant documentation. Copies of important documents should be stored securely.

Mohale praised the partnership between the Henley on Klip Community Policing Forum, police and private security companies.

“The partnership between the community, the CPF, security companies and the police is important in preventing and combating crime,” Mohale said.

He added that residents should not hesitate to share crime-related concerns or information with police.

“The police can conduct operations when necessary, and community members with concerns or information about crime should report it directly to the police or the sector manager,” Mohale said.

Ward 15 representative Jane Erasmus also stressed the importance of residents working together to create safer neighbourhoods.

“Everyone wants to live in a crime-free area, but that requires residents to work together to prevent and combat crime in the community,” Erasmus said.

Mohale concluded by encouraging residents to remain vigilant and take responsibility for safeguarding their property and public infrastructure.

“We must remain vigilant at all times and take responsibility for protecting our properties and the infrastructure of our country,” he said.
