Man dies after being electrocuted by transformer in De Deur

A deadly electrocution at a transformer in De Deur on Wednesday, 16 September, has prompted police to open an inquest and investigate possible tampering with essential infrastructure.

De Deur SAPS said copper cables were also found inside a backpack lying near the transformer poles at the scene.

Police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and whether the incident is linked to interference with electricity infrastructure.

De Deur SAPS Station Commander Colonel Zachariah Ranake warned residents against tampering with electrical installations.

“Tampering with essential infrastructure is a criminal offence and can have deadly consequences. We urge members of the public not to put their lives at risk by interfering with electrical installations,” Ranake said.

Police have not released further details about the deceased or confirmed whether any arrests have been made.
