Civic Education Campaign Empowers Men and Boys in Midvaal
Agape Lerato Community Services joined community stakeholders at a Civic Education Awareness Campaign held at Sicelo Community Hall on 29 September, providing HIV Testing Services (HTS) while engaging with men and boys on community participation and access to support services.
Held under the theme “Empowering Men and Boys Through Civic Awareness, Positive Leadership and Community Participation,” the initiative aimed to encourage responsible citizenship while creating opportunities for participants to connect with organisations providing community support and essential services.
The campaign highlighted the role men and boys can play in building stronger families and communities through informed decision-making, responsible leadership and active community involvement.
Several stakeholders participated in the programme, including representatives from health, social development, local government and community organisations.
Health support also formed part of the day’s activities, with HIV Testing Services (HTS) made available to attendees. Agape Lerato Community Services was among the organisations providing services and engaging directly with men and boys during the event.
The programme also created a platform for organisations working with men and boys to share information about available support services and strengthen relationships with residents.
The campaign formed part of wider efforts to “build responsible citizens for stronger families and communities”, with organisers using civic education and community engagement to encourage greater participation in issues affecting residents.
Stakeholders involved included the Midvaal Local Municipality, Gauteng Department of Health, Gauteng Department of Social Development, Sedibeng District Health Services and other participating organisations.
The initiative concluded with an emphasis on continued collaboration between government, community organisations and residents to support healthier, safer and more engaged communities.
