Henley-on-Klip road closure as sewer works begin
Motorists travelling through Henley-on-Klip are being urged to plan alternative routes as Midvaal Local Municipality prepares to close a busy intersection for essential sewer pipeline construction.
Midvaal Local Municipality has announced a planned road closure at the intersection of Burnham Street and Marlowe Street in Henley-on-Klip, Ward 15, from 26 to 28 October 2026.
The three-day closure will allow municipal teams to undertake critical sewer pipeline works aimed at improving infrastructure in the area.
According to an official public notice issued on 8 October, the construction will involve extensive excavation and the use of heavy machinery, including excavators, TLBs and trucks.
The municipality explained that a complete closure of the intersection is necessary to protect motorists, pedestrians and construction workers while ensuring that the project is completed safely and efficiently.
During the construction period, motorists will be required to make use of alternative routes.
The municipality has recommended the following roads as possible alternatives: Oval Road, Baliol Road, Cleeve Road, Iffley Road and Sonning Road.
Appropriate traffic signage and traffic control measures will be implemented throughout the construction period to guide road users and minimise disruptions.
The roadworks are scheduled to begin on Monday, 26 October, with completion expected on Wednesday, 28 October 2026.
Residents and motorists are encouraged to exercise caution near the construction site and allow additional travelling time where necessary.
Midvaal Local Municipality has apologised for the inconvenience associated with the planned closure.
Municipal Manager Phumudzo Magodi signed the official notice informing residents of the upcoming construction activities.
