The Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL), in partnership with the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) and the Department of Home Affairs, hosted a voter education and registration simulation workshop for unemployed youth at Lakeside Estate Community Hall in Ward 6, Midvaal, on 22 October.
The initiative aimed to promote active and responsible citizenship by familiarising young people with voter education and registration processes.
The workshop provided a platform for participants to learn about electoral procedures and the importance of taking part in democratic processes. Through the simulation, the programme sought to help young people better understand how voter registration works and the role citizens play in shaping the country’s democratic future.
The involvement of the IEC and the Department of Home Affairs brought together institutions associated with electoral processes and civic administration, supporting the workshop’s focus on voter education and registration.
The programme also highlighted the importance of equipping unemployed youth with knowledge that can help them participate more confidently in civic affairs.
“Promote active and responsible citizenship” was the central message of the workshop, reflecting the importance of voter education in encouraging informed participation in democracy.
The workshop was held as part of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s voter education initiative, with the aim of raising awareness about electoral participation among young people in the community.
