Wide Horizon Hospice has opened a new charity shop at Golf Park Shopping Centre in Meyerton, offering shoppers affordable goods while raising funds to support patients living with life-limiting illnesses. The shop officially opened on Saturday, October 31, marking a new chapter for the organisation, which previously operated from Henley-on-Klip. The move to Golf Park Shopping Centre is expected to make the shop more accessible and convenient for shoppers and community members who want to support the hospice.
The opening attracted community members who came out to support the initiative. Wide Horizon Hospice CEO Tersia Burger officially opened the premises by untying the ribbon, followed by a blessing of the building by Father Reggie. Burger said the shop plays an important role in helping the organisation continue its work.
“This will be a place that enables us to do the work that we have to do; it’s such an important source of income,” she said.
Money raised through sales will go towards medication, meals and nursing care for hospice patients. The funds also help ensure that patients receive care with dignity and support their families during difficult times.
Apart from raising funds for patient care, the charity shop also creates employment opportunities for people in the area, contributing to the local community. Shoppers can find a variety of affordable pre-loved goods, including clothing, books, furniture, household items and toys.
Wide Horizon Hospice is encouraging members of the public to support the initiative by shopping at the store, donating pre-loved items, volunteering or sponsoring a patient bed.
