Run for a Reason: Mandela Day supports people with disabilities

The Känguru Institute for the Disabled will host its annual Mandela Day 3km, 5km and 9.5km Walk and Run on 18 July, bringing the community together to raise funds and awareness for children and young adults living with disabilities.

The event will take place at 43 Garthview Road, Garthdale, Kliprivier, with registration from 8am and the walk and run starting at 9am. Entry is R50, with pre-registration available.

Supported by the Rotary Club of Vanderbijlpark and the Orlando Pirates Sky City Branch, the fundraiser helps sustain the institute’s programmes while promoting inclusion and acceptance.

Residential Coordinator and Fundraiser Veronica Ntsepe said the institute provides care for children and young adults with severe to profound intellectual and physical disabilities.

We see the person before the disability. Our message is simple: it is okay to be different, you are loved, and you matter,” said Ntsepe.

Participants can choose between the 3km, 5km and 9.5km routes before enjoying live music, food stalls and family-friendly entertainment throughout the day.

Community members, businesses and organisations are encouraged to support the initiative and spend their Mandela Day making a meaningful difference in the lives of people living with disabilities.
