Vereeniging shop raids net illicit goods worth R115 555

Police seized 8 851 counterfeit and illicit items during an operation targeting 12 shops in Vereeniging on Tuesday, 22 September.

Members of the Gauteng Counterfeit Unit, supported by a brand protector, conducted the operation in the Sedibeng District.

According to SAPS, the haul included 8 826 counterfeit consumables valued at R113 555 and 25 illicit honey products worth R2 000.

“These operations form part of ongoing efforts by SAPS Gauteng and its partners to disrupt the distribution and sale of illegal goods, protect consumers and legitimate businesses, and prevent potentially harmful products from entering communities,” SAPS Gauteng said in a statement.

The operation followed raids in Ivory Park the previous day, bringing the combined value of seized goods to R186 815.

Police urged residents to report the sale and distribution of counterfeit, contraband and illicit goods to the police or relevant authorities.
