Deaf awareness event highlights barriers to healthcare

Dr Helga Kuhn Clinic commemorated Deaf Awareness Day on Monday, 5 October, drawing attention to the importance of accessible healthcare for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

The clinic used the occasion to raise awareness about deafness and promote inclusion in healthcare services.

“Communication is a basic right,” the clinic said in its event update.

“Creating an inclusive healthcare environment means ensuring that every patient can access, understand and participate in their healthcare journey.”

The commemoration highlighted the need to recognise patients’ different communication needs and address barriers that may prevent them from participating fully in their care.

“Through awareness and education, we can continue breaking down communication barriers and building a healthcare system where everyone is heard, respected and included,” the update stated.
