Carl Owen stitches his way to victory at Village Market sewing competition

The recent sewing competition held at the Village Market (84 on Main, Walkerville) on Saturday, 4 October, was a resounding success, drawing local families and showcasing impressive young talent.

The event created a vibrant atmosphere of creativity and community spirit, as seven young participants demonstrated their sewing skills and enthusiasm. Organisers expressed their gratitude to stallholders Estelle Zahlauer and Lynn Gregory for their generous support with materials and ribbons, which contributed greatly to the day’s success.

Special thanks also went to Tazz, whose last-minute assistance with scissors and pins ensured the event ran smoothly. The competition was judged by Estelle Zahlauer, Lynn Gregory, Lou Hickley, and Rachel, known affectionately as the “plant lady”.

Their time and expertise were greatly appreciated by both participants and organisers.Carl Owen emerged as the winner of the first round, earning R600 worth of prizes, which included a hand-sewing kit donated by The Fresh Veggie Stall and a mini sewing machine sponsored by AB Ceramics’ Anton Boerner. The next round of the competition is scheduled for Saturday, October 18, from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm, with the winner announcement taking place at 12:45 pm.

Organisers encouraged the community to attend and support the participants as they continue to showcase their growing creativity and skills.
