Meyerton SAPS cracks down on bullying with learner transport safety operation
On 12 November 2025, Meyerton SAPS, together with various stakeholders, conducted a monitoring operation focusing on learner transportation within the Sicelo area. This intervention followed multiple complaints from community members and learners regarding incidents of bullying occurring while learners were en route to school. Buses transporting children from Savanna City and Lakeside into Sicelo were closely monitored to ensure safe and peaceful travel. The operation formed part of the ongoing School Safety Program, which aims to ensure that learners travel to and from school in a safe and protected environment. Stakeholders involved included SAPS, Siyabangena, FCS Vereeniging, Dinare, Sicelo community representatives, and Crime Prevention Wardens.
As part of the broader school safety initiative, Meyerton SAPS also conducted a school visit and awareness session at Kidz Inc Meyerton. During the visit, children were educated about their rights and responsibilities, with emphasis on respect, communication, and personal safety. SAPS members also participated in sports activities with the learners to build positive relationships and demonstrate that police officers are friends and protectors of children, rather than figures to be feared. The school visit included the participation of school management, SAPS, FCS, Sukuritet Security, Liberty Life, Siyabangena, the Youth Desk, and the K9 Unit, which brought along two trained dogs.
This initiative reflects the continued commitment of Meyerton SAPS and its partners to ensuring learner safety, strengthening community relations, and promoting a secure environment for all children within the Sedibeng District.
