Overturned truck causes full closure of N12 East near Kliprivier Drive

A major traffic disruption unfolded today morning after a truck overturned on the N12 East freeway in Glenanda, resulting in a full road closure and severe congestion in the area.

According to the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), the truck overturned shortly after the Kliprivier Drive off-ramp, spilling a large load of coal across the roadway. Emergency responders and clean-up crews are currently on-site conducting recovery operations, with authorities warning that the closure will remain in effect indefinitely.

As a result of the incident, all eastbound traffic is being diverted off the freeway at the Kliprivier Drive off-ramp. The JMPD cautions motorists to expect heavy delays and significant congestion on nearby feeder routes.

Drivers are urged to seek alternative routes, including the M1 or Xavier Street, to avoid the affected section of the N12. JMPD officers remain stationed at the scene to manage traffic flow and assist with the diversion.

Superintendent Xolani Fihla, spokesperson for the JMPD, confirmed that operations are ongoing and appealed for patience from motorists during the cleanup.
