The Mponda Brothers have been nominated for the EE Streaming Music and Content Creators Awards for their hit ‘Gobela’, marking a major milestone in their 15-year music journey. In addition to this exciting news, the Kanana Park–based brothers are gearing up to release their highly anticipated ‘Spiritual Journey’ EP on 6 December. The project brings together a stellar creative lineup, including Sizsa Tlhapi, Ts Musiq SA and vocalist Laureenlyraea, promising a bold new chapter in their sound.
The EP features three tracks blending Afro House, 3-Step House, and spiritually inspired soundscapes:
- ‘Garden Route (3-Step Afro House Mix)’ – Mponda Brothers and Siz featuring Laureenlyraea
- ‘Garden Route (Original Mix)’ – with Ts Musiq SA
- ‘Ocean (Afro House)’ – a collaboration with Siz
Each track combines African rhythms, ancestral influences, and modern house grooves, highlighting the brothers’ signature township-rooted sound.
Known individually as Lawrence Sibusiso Matewela (Deco) and Ntokozo Matewela (DJ NT), the siblings began their journey in 2012 with Uni_boyz SA before forming Mponda Brothers. Over the years, they have collaborated on hits such as ‘Gobela’, ‘Nolubanzi’ and ‘Malume ka Gal’, and performed at major events including the ANC Rally, Moshito Music Conference, Gauteng Music Concert, and SAUMA Awards.
“Years of rejection and challenges made the breakthrough difficult, but we never gave up,” Matewela reflects.
