Deputy President Mashatile conducts oversight visit in the Vaal
Earlier today, Deputy President Paul Mashatile was at the Vereeniging City Hall for the District Development Model outreach programme.
He was received by the Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi, SDM Mayor, Cllr Lerato Maloka and Cllr Sipho Radebe from Emfuleni Local Municipality.
Mashatile’s visit aimed at providing feedback to residents of Emfuleni Local Municipality and showcasing the progress made on key projects since the Presidential Imbizo in 2022.
Addressing the delegates at the Vereeniging City Hall, DP Mashatile said that his visit was a result of a direct mandate from President Cyril Ramaphosa, for him to work closely with ministers to give intervention and resolve problems.
“We are not inspectors, we are here to work with you. We are not here to spectate but to see if there is progress in all interventions. Collectively, we must uphold the values of District Development Model which forces us to work together,” Mashatile said.
“We will be visiting four sites today, not that those are the only projects in the area, I understand that there’s more. After this, reports will be discussed and government spheres will be engaged, hard questions will be asked and only then we would come back to people of Emfuleni to give them feedback on the work government is doing,” Deputy President added.
Mashatile said that he was happy with reports of work done in Emfuleni from the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) and the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS).
The DP thanked the Premier for the reports and encouraged all delegates to keep working hard.
The DP’s visit also looked into strengthening and fast-tracking the implementation of the Special Economic Zone in Sedibeng as a contribution geared towards accelerating the Gauteng City Region 2030 vision.
The delegation spent a better part of the day engaging on challenges facing Emfuleni and finding long lasting solutions.
The day’s proceedings concluded with oversight visits to the Vereeniging Intermodal Taxi Facility (Taxido), DWS-Rand Water Section 63 Interventions (Union Street, Vereeniging and pump station 2), Vereeniging Fresh Produce Market and the Vaal River City Interchange.
