Midvaal wins big at SALGA Gauteng Municipal Audit Awards

Midvaal Local Municipality was awarded awards at the inaugural South African Local  Government Association (SALGA) Gauteng Inaugural Municipal Audit Awards ceremony held in Klerksdorp on Friday, 12 May.

The awards acknowledge Gauteng municipalities that have demonstrated exemplary performance in financial management and accountability in line with the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) in the 2021/22 financial year.

Midvaal received awards in the following categories: Clean Audit Opinion for 2021/22 Financial Year, Winner for Improved Revenue Collection and Debt Management for 2021/22 Financial Year and award as a First Runner-Up for Good Record Keeping for 2021/22 Financial Year.

“These awards serve as a testament to our commitment to being a well-governed, effectively   managed, financially viable, and sustainable institution. Our dedicated staff members and public representatives deserve all the credit for these awards as it is a direct result of their diligent efforts and hard work. Without their commitment and dedication, such achievements would not have been possible,” said Midvaal Mayor, Ald Peter Texeira.

He added: “Midvaal’s priority  has  always  been  to  improve  the  lives  of  our residents by providing excellent service delivery, and we are thrilled that our efforts have been recognised by SALGA. We will continue to serve our community with excellence, ensuring that we maintain our good track record of clean governance.”

This event, aimed at celebrating excellence within municipalities and encourage the restoration of good governance, was attended by deputy minister of co-operative governance and traditional affairs (Cogta) Parks Tau and Gauteng Cogta MEC for e-government, research & development Mzi Khumalo.
