Vaal River Marathon highlights community spirit and collaboration at iconic Isak Steyl Stadium
On 14 September, the South African Police Service, in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Sports and Recreation and various stakeholders, successfully hosted the Vaal River Marathon at the renowned Isak Steyl Stadium.
The event drew a substantial crowd of athletes, spectators and community members, all eager to participate in or witness the exhilarating competition. Beyond promoting physical fitness and community engagement, the marathon fostered stronger connections between local communities and law enforcement, underpinned by shared values of sportsmanship and teamwork.
The marathon’s success was also ensured by meticulous coordination with the Sedibeng District local police, who ensured that the marathon route adhered to the highest safety standards while showcasing the scenic beauty of the Vaal River area.
Volunteer teams were crucial to the marathon’s success, handling everything from race-day registration to post-race activities. Their dedication was praised by District Commissioner Major General Nkhensani Lemba, who expressed deep gratitude for their selfless contributions and the community spirit they brought to the event.
