De Deur SAPS apprehend two suspects for illicit cigarettes, illegal firearms
On Tueday,18 March, at approximately 9am De Deur SAPS Crime Prevention Unit Relief A (Constable Makaza, Constable Nteso, R/Cst Seboa and R/Cst Lehoko) were conducting their proactive crime prevention duties when they encountered a suspicious unknown Ethiopian male with illicit cigarettes.
As the police approached, the man attempted to flee, sparking a vigorous chase. Officers pursued him relentlessly and eventually caught up with him at a house on Cordoba Street in Roshnee.
When the police were busy searching the suspect and the house, they discovered another Ethiopian male in the bedroom with a black 9mm firearm in his hand and another firearm with extended magazine on him.
The police arrested the suspect for being in South Africa illegally and for possessing unlicensed firearms and ammunition, including 32 auto rounds and 12 live rounds.
During a further search, the suspect was found with a plastic bag containing R30 000 in cash. Both Ethiopian males-one who fled from the police and the other found at the house with firearms-were successfully apprehended for possessing illicit cigarettes, being undocumented and having unlicensed firearms.
De Deur SAPS, acting station Commander L.t Colonel Anver Hammond applauded the members and encouraged them to work harder to reduce unlicenced firearms on the streets.
