Small Farm’s karateka Smangele clinches 2nd place in KZN
Smangele Motinyane from Small Farms, Evaton, is fast becoming a name to watch in South African karate. The dedicated martial artist secured second place in the ladies’ open division at a prestigious tournament held on 5 July in KwaMashu, KwaZulu-Natal.
Motinyane began her karate journey in 2017, driven by a desire for self-defence, improved confidence and better physical and mental health. Since then, her passion and hard work have earned her multiple accolades at local competitions.
She trains under the International Kyokushinkai Karate Federation, which is affiliated with the African Full Contact Karate Organisation. Her training sessions take place at the Small Farms Hall, under the guidance of Sensei Muzi Zulu and Shihan Thulani Sibisi.
“I thank my instructor Sensei Muzi Zulu and Shihan Thulani Sibisi for giving me the opportunity to compete at this provincial level,” Motinyane shared with Walkerville and Savanna City Times.
Despite facing financial hurdles in attending tournaments, Motinyane remains focused on her goals. She is determined to continue growing in her sport and representing her community with pride.
“I feel happy and proud to have represented Gauteng province in my sporting career,” she said.
