Five suspects appear in court today following Walkerville’s Deep South Pub armed robbery

Station Commander Colonel Zachariah Ranake commended the swift actions of the officers for arresting the 5 suspects, affirming SAPS’s commitment to ensuring the safety of the Walkerville community.

According to De Deur SAPS, the suspects appeared in Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court. “Three suspects were arrested in Heidelberg in possession of an unlicensed firearm alleged to be used in the commission of this crime. One suspect was arrested in Yeoville in Johannesburg and the other in Lenasia. Each suspect was in possession of a vehicle in which we believe were used to flee the crime scene,” SAPS told Walkerville and Savanna City Times’ reporters.

The incident occurred on 9 November, when three armed suspects entered the establishment and attempted to rob the business. Shots were fired and two customers were injured, one male and one female. Police officers confirmed that their ongoing investigative work led to the apprehension of five suspects linked to the crime.

Jeanette Greatorex, chairperson of the Walkerville Agricultural Society, expressed gratitude to first responders, saying, As the Walkerville Agricultural Society, we would like to thank Freddie and Dani Botha, the police for their swift response, as well as Freddie and Dani Botha the ambulance services and security company Expo.” She also confirmed that one of the victims is in stable condition in hospital, while the second victim is scheduled to undergo an operation tomorrow.

SAPS has urged the community to remain vigilant and to continue cooperating with law enforcement as efforts to combat crime in the area intensify.
