Midvaal launches Safety Task Force to fight crime
Midvaal Local Municipality has recently established a Safety Task Force to combat crime and support the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Community Policing Forums (CPFs) across the municipality.
This is in line with the Executive Mayor, Alderman Peter Teixeira’s mayoral undertaking of investing in the safety and security for the people of Midvaal.
the Mayor said: “This is a true milestone for the municipality and reaffirms that the promise to invest in the safety and security of all people was not an empty one.”
The Task Force currently has six highly trained safety officers with specialised skills in crime prevention and intelligence-led operations.
The Municipality purchased two high-performance Ford Raptors, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including number plate recognition cameras connected to its control room and linked to the SAPS database.
These resources will enable the Task Force to conduct visible patrols and provide operational support to SAPS and the broader security cluster, including Community Policing Forums, throughout Midvaal.
Since commencing operations in December, the Safety Task Force has already recorded successes, it has assisted in arrests related to the possession of unlawful firearms, unlicensed ammunition, fraud involving false vehicle registrations and illegal immigration.
The municipality says it remains committed to building safer communities and will continue to invest in initiatives that enhance the safety and security of all residents.
