Illegal shebeen shut down as operation Shanela sweeps De Deur
On Thursday, 05 February, Sedibeng District police members decended to De Deur SAPS policing area to conduct operation Shanela.
This operation commenced with a parade that was held at the Total Garage on R82. The parade was opened with a solemn prayer, followed by the reading of the South African Police Service Code of Conduct.
Forming part of this operation were various stakeholders such as the Department of Home Affairs, Gauteng Traffic, Siyabangena Patrollers, Peace Officers, Ward Councilors, Security companies around De Deur policing precincts, and the Crime Policing Forum.
The parade was briefed by Colonel Dube, in his address he encouraged team work and further reminded members to always be professional when executing their duties and that criminality must be addressed in De Deur.
During this paramount operation, 28 undocumented persons were apprehended, with 16 of them hailing from Malawi, 7 hailing from Zimbabwe, 3 hailing from Mozambique, 1 from Lesotho and the other one hailing from Ethiopia.
One illegal shebeen was discovered and closed with a total of 296010ml of liquor confistigated. Three traffic infringement were issued amounting to R1 500.
A community engagement was conducted during this operation in Ramaphosa informal settlement. About +- 190 community members were present to this gathering. Crime around Ramaphosa was discussed as well as possible solutions. The community was awarded an opportunity to raise questions and concerns.
During this operation a school search was also conducted at Tshepong Secondary as an initiative to promote school safety and ensure education takes place without any criminality around the school.
