Community gathers for R59 victims Candle-Light Memorial

On 11 February, Meyerton SAPS, in partnership with other stakeholder held a Candle Light Memorial at R59 John le Roux Road to honour the victims of the R59 incident. The event included participants from Meyerton SAPS Management, Midvaal Traffic and Fire Departments, Community Policing Forums (CPF), faith-based organizations, members of the Midvaal community, and families of the deceased.

According to Meyerton SAPS Communication Officer, Cst Nompumelelo Zazini, Meyerton SAPS also implemented an intervention programme to support survivors and the families of those who lost their lives. The programme began on 10 February with the opening of a victim support facility and coordination meetings with pathologists, the Lesotho Embassy Consulate, and local funeral services to provide comprehensive support.

“Our efforts are focused on ensuring that victims and their families are not left to navigate this tragedy alone,” said Cst Zazini

Meyerton SAPS says it remains committed to assisting victims of crime and coordinating with relevant agencies to address the ongoing impact of the R59 incident.
