Midvaal completes R12 million Papegaai road upgrade

Midvaal Local Municipality has successfully completed the Papegaai Road gravel-to-tar upgrade at a total cost of R12 million, marking another milestone in the municipality’s infrastructure development programme.

A statement released by the Midvaal Municipality said: “The project commenced in September 2025 and was finalised on time and within budget.”

According to the statement, work on the road included extensive mass earthworks, such as the excavation, hauling and compaction of soil and rock to establish stable foundations. Pavement layers were then constructed, followed by the application of a 30mm-thick asphalt surfacing to ensure durability and improved driving conditions.

“In line with our commitment to create opportunities and local economic development, the project created opportunities for nine SMMEs and seven local labourers, who directly benefited from this project,” reads the statement.

The municipality reaffirmed its commitment to investing in infrastructure development: “Midvaal remains committed to investing in the development of its infrastructure and will continue to leverage resources to expand and improve the municipal road network for the benefit of all communities,” conluded the statement.
