Police arrest suspect after brutal stabbing near Meyerton Dumping Site
A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 35-year-old man. A statement issued by Meyerton South African Police Services (SAPS) said: “The incident occurred on 8 March, at 12am near the Springfield dumping site along the M61 Road in Meyerton.”
According to SAPS, the suspect, Keketso Tedingaoene, allegedly returned to his shack and found the victim, Innocent Korogwe, hiding behind the door. “The deceased grabbed the suspect by his clothes and warned him not to make noise, which led to a physical altercation between the two men,” said SAPS.
During the struggle, the suspect reportedly overpowered the victim and allegedly stabbed him multiple times. “The suspect managed to overpower the deceased and took a knife and stabbed the deceased 5 times on the face and 5 times on the back of the head,” reads the statement.
After the attack, the suspect allegedly dragged the victim a few metres away from the shack and left him outside before fleeing and hiding in nearby bushes.
A neighbour, Kgotso Halala, later discovered the victim and alerted another community member, Thabo Ntshega. While responding to the situation, Ntshega reportedly found the suspect hiding in the bushes and questioned him about his actions. The suspect allegedly told him that he had been involved in a fight and later claimed that the victim had been stealing his food.
Police arrived at the scene, where the suspect was arrested. A murder case was opened at Meyerton Police Station. Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
