New R59 pedestrian bridge takes shape in Meyerton

Construction of the new pedestrian bridge along the R59 in Meyerton is progressing steadily, with piling foundation works currently underway.

According to the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport, the foundation work marks an important milestone in the project.

“These foundations are a critical component of the bridge structure, providing the strength and stability required to support the crossing for years to come,” the department said in a recent Facebook update.

The bridge is being constructed to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility along the busy R59 corridor, where residents have long relied on crossing the road at ground level.

Once completed, the bridge is expected to provide a safer crossing for pedestrians while improving connectivity between communities on either side of the highway.

The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport said the project forms part of its broader commitment to improving road infrastructure across the province.

The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport remains committed to investing in infrastructure that promotes safer mobility and connectivity for communities,” the department said.

Construction is continuing, with motorists advised to exercise caution and adhere to all temporary traffic management measures while work is underway.
