Illegal land invasion blocked in Elandsfontein
Midvaal Local Municipality has prevented an attempted illegal land invasion in Elandsfontein and warned residents against buying or occupying land being sold unlawfully.
The municipality said it intervened over the weekend of 4 to 5 July after attempts were made to erect structures on the land. Municipal-appointed security, supported by law enforcement officials, stopped the construction before the occupation could continue.
Midvaal Executive Mayor Alderman Peter Teixeira urged residents not to fall victim to illegal land sales.
“Illegal land sales not only place residents at risk of financial loss, but also undermine orderly development and the delivery of essential services. We urge residents to report any suspicious land occupations or illegal land sales so that we can act swiftly,” said Teixeira.
The municipality said no building or development approvals had been granted for the site, making any construction or occupation unlawful.Officials warned that illegal developments often lack basic infrastructure such as water, electricity and sanitation, which can affect the quality of life of residents.
The municipality said it will continue to monitor land parcels and take action to ensure development in Elandsfontein happens legally and in line with required approvals.
