Transformer replacements bring electricity relief to Sebokeng and Kanana

Residents affected by prolonged power outages in Sebokeng and Kanana received renewed hope as Emfuleni Local Municipality, Gauteng Provincial Government and Eskom rolled out transformer replacements on Friday, 9 October.

The intervention forms part of Operation Khanyisa iGauteng, an initiative aimed at restoring electricity supply to communities experiencing persistent power disruptions.

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi and Emfuleni Executive Mayor Cllr Hassan Mako visited affected areas to oversee installations and engage with technicians and community members.

The municipality described the initiative as part of efforts to restore reliable electricity to households affected by outages.

Earlier municipal reports indicated that Emfuleni had been allocated 31 transformers, with 19 installed by March 2024. However, the number replaced during the latest operation remains unconfirmed.

The programme seeks to address electricity challenges while improving residents’ access to essential services.

Although the replacements offer relief, continued infrastructure maintenance and protection against vandalism remain essential to preventing future disruptions.
