A new digital cemetery system is set to improve grave allocation, record-keeping and services for bereaved families in Emfuleni.
The Emfuleni Local Municipality hosted funeral undertakers at the Mayor’s Parlour for a workshop introducing the Cemetery Digital System, which aims to modernise cemetery management and improve service delivery.
The system will replace manual registers with a centralised digital database for all municipal cemeteries, allowing real-time tracking of available graves, more efficient allocation and accurate historical records.
“The new system will move the Municipality from manual registers to a centralized digital database for all cemeteries. This will allow for real time tracking of available graves, efficient allocation, accurate historical records, and faster service for bereaved families,” the municipality said.
The digital platform is also expected to reduce errors such as double allocation of graves and minimise waiting periods for families arranging burials.
Funeral undertakers were invited to provide input during the workshop to help ensure the system works effectively for service providers and the communities they serve.
The initiative forms part of the municipality’s efforts to use technology to improve administrative efficiency and make cemetery services more reliable and accessible.
