Midvaal Local Municipality is investing more than R11.7 million to upgrade three gravel roads to tar in Ohenimuri, with the project expected to improve access for residents and create employment opportunities for local people. The project covers Felix Avenue, Jannet Avenue and Morkel Avenue. According to the municipality, the work is valued at R11 786 014.04 and is expected to be completed by 26 February 2027.
The upgrades form part of ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure and make routes safer and more accessible for communities. While road maintenance and pothole repairs remain a priority through the municipality’s War on Potholes campaign, the municipality says investment in long-term road improvements is also necessary.
The gravel-to-tar project is expected to provide economic opportunities through the appointment of 11 small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs), six local labourers and one Community Liaison Officer (CLO). The involvement of local businesses and workers is expected to contribute to economic activity in the area while supporting the delivery of improved infrastructure.
Midvaal Local Municipality said it remained committed to investing in infrastructure that improves residents’ quality of life while creating opportunities for local businesses and communities. The project is scheduled for completion in February next year.
