Door-to-door campaign spreads GBVF awareness in Sicelo
Meyerton SAPS, together with Siyabangena, took crime prevention directly to residents during a door-to-door awareness campaign in Sicelo on July 14.
Led by Domestic Violence Coordinator Warrant Officer Mohlapholi, the initiative formed part of the station’s ongoing efforts to educate communities about Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), substance abuse and personal safety.
Residents received information on domestic violence, alcohol and drug abuse, sexual offences and the protection of elderly people. Officers also distributed 150 crime prevention pamphlets and encouraged community members to report abuse and criminal activity.
Meyerton SAPS Communication Officer Constable Nompumelelo Zazini said community awareness remains one of the most effective ways to prevent crime before it happens.
“Through our door-to-door campaign, we educated residents about gender-based violence, domestic violence, alcohol and drug abuse, sexual offences and the safety of elderly people. We encourage community members to report crime and make use of the support services available to them,” said Zazini.
The awareness drive formed part of a broader crime prevention operation during which police visited community hotspots, taxi ranks, ATMs, health facilities and other public spaces to engage residents and strengthen partnerships with the community.
