Police destroy 4.6 million ml of confiscated liquor in Sebokeng

More than 4.6 million millilitres of confiscated liquor was destroyed in Sebokeng as police intensified efforts against illicit alcohol trading in the Sedibeng District.

The destruction formed part of the weekday Operation Shanela II activities, which saw multidisciplinary law enforcement teams proceed to Sebokeng following disruptive and crime-prevention operations in De Deur.

According to police, the alcohol — including beer, spirits and whisky — was seized during various crime-prevention operations conducted throughout Sedibeng since May 2026.

“The destruction forms part of ongoing law-enforcement efforts to address the illegal dealing of liquor, which remains a contributor to domestic violence and contact crimes such as murder and assault,” police said.

Authorities said the operation is aimed not only at disrupting the illegal liquor trade, but also at reducing crimes associated with alcohol abuse.

Operation Shanela II continues to target criminal activity through suspect raids, roadblocks, compliance inspections and high-visibility policing throughout the district.
