Midvaal athlete Monica eyes IFBB World Championships in Spain

Local bikini athlete Monica Bingham is preparing to represent South Africa on the international stage after securing second place at the IFBB SA Championships in Cape Town.

The 40-year-old Midvaal resident competed in the IFBB Semi-Pro Bikini Division, an achievement she says reflects the discipline and sacrifices behind her bodybuilding journey.

“Being announced as the second-place winner was an incredibly emotional and proud moment for me,” Bingham said. “This achievement motivates me to continue working harder and pursuing my dreams in the sport.”

Bingham balances competitive bodybuilding with being a full-time mother and running two businesses, Chemix and Sweet Concepts. Her competition preparation includes structured training, nutrition and cardio, with approximately eight weeks of focused preparation ahead of an event.

She credits coach Jamie Morais of Fitzone by Jamie in Meyersdal, along with her husband and family, for supporting her journey.

Her attention has now shifted to the IFBB Semi-Pro World Championships in Santa Susanna, Spain, from 29 October to November.

“My next goal is to compete at the IFBB Semi-Pro World Championships in Santa Susanna, Spain, where I hope to represent South Africa on an international stage,” she said.

Getting there, however, comes at a significant cost. Bingham is seeking sponsorship to assist with flights, accommodation, visa fees, team kit, competition preparation, meals, transport and coaching. Her fundraising target is R50 609.

Beyond competing internationally, Bingham hopes her journey will encourage other women, particularly mothers, to pursue personal goals alongside family and career responsibilities.

“It is never too late to pursue your dreams and challenge yourself to become better,” she said. “This is only the beginning of my journey, and I am excited for what the future holds.”
