Thuto Lore Secondary School to Become Engineering School of Specialisation

Learners in Sharpeville are set to benefit from expanded technical and engineering-focused education as the Gauteng Department of Education moves to convert Thuto Lore Secondary School into an Engineering School of Specialisation.

The school, located in Dubula Drive, Sharpeville, is one of six public ordinary schools identified by the department for conversion into Schools of Specialisation.

Under the proposed change, the school will operate as Thuto Lore Engineering School of Specialisation, with a stronger focus on technical education, engineering-related skills and career pathways linked to industry.

The Gauteng Department of Education says the Schools of Specialisation programme is aimed at responding to skills needs in the province, broadening curriculum choices for learners and improving access to pathways leading to higher education and the workplace.

For learners in Sharpeville and surrounding communities, the conversion is expected to create greater exposure to practical and specialised learning while supporting future opportunities in engineering and other technical fields.

The department has also indicated that the broader programme supports the province’s economic development goals by preparing learners with skills that are increasingly relevant to a changing labour market.

Community members and interested parties have been invited to submit representations regarding the proposed conversion within 90 days from the date of publication.

If approved, the conversion will place the Sharpeville school among Gauteng institutions focused on building specialised skills and preparing learners for further study and employment in technical sectors.
