Big Brother’s Mata Rainbow gears up to conquer the music industry

When Mathapelo Mashila, affectionately known as Mata Rainbow, stepped into the Big Brother Mzansi house, she wasn’t just entering a reality show – she was launching a brand.

Known for her signature long, rainbow-coloured braid, Mata instantly became a fan favourite, not just for her vibrant look but for her magnetic presence and undeniable authenticity. Although her Big Brother journey came to an end with an early eviction, Mata left the house having already made an indelible mark.

Mata told Walkerville & Savanna City Times: “My first thought stepping into the house was how beautiful and artistic it was – I absolutely loved that, It felt like walking into a dream world.”

In a house where every move is captured 24/7, staying grounded is no small feat. But for Mata, the key was simple. “I told myself to be myself, ignore the cameras and live freely – just like I would at home,” she said.

The greatest challenge? Being away from family. But what she gained far outweighed what she left behind – from friendships and lessons in patience to new doors opening in the entertainment world.

“Living with so many people taught me to coexist, even in moments when my introverted side wanted to retreat. I learnt a lot about myself,” she reflected.

Despite the unpredictable nature of the game, Mata said her eviction didn’t come as a shock – nor did it feel unfair. “I wasn’t blindsided. I believe my exit was destined. It happened exactly how God planned it,” she said.

Now back in Walkerville, Mata is embracing her new reality. Fame may have been fast, but it’s something she wears with grace. “Life has changed in amazing ways. I’m now publicly recognised and I’m receiving so much love from people who are rooting for me – it humbles me deeply,” she shared.

“The best fan reaction so far? Seeing people cry just to take a picture with me. It moves me every time.”

Far from slowing down, Mata Rainbow is shifting gears. With music projects in the pipeline and collaborations with brands and artists on the horizon, her focus has turned to building a legacy beyond TV.

“There’s so much lined up – music, partnerships and exploring new avenues in entertainment. People should definitely stay tuned,” she said with confidence.

And would she do it all over again? “Absolutely. It was an experience of a lifetime. If given the chance, I’d go back in a heartbeat,” she concluded.

From Walkerville to the national stage, Mata Rainbow is proving that true stars don’t just shine – they evolve.
