On 6 July, South African middleweight boxer Donjuan “DiDi” van Heerden from Meyerton, Midvaal, delivered a standout performance at Emperors Palace, seizing a major milestone in his career.
In front of a packed and electric crowd, Van Heerden claimed the vacant African Boxing Union (ABU) Middleweight Title, cementing his status as one of the brightest talents in African boxing.
At just 24 years old, Van Heerden has already carved out an impressive legacy in the sport. With over 70 amateur bouts under his belt, including six national championship titles, his journey has been one of grit, discipline and undeniable passion. His transition to the professional ranks has been nothing short of remarkable marked by resilience and a burning drive to succeed.
His return to Golden Gloves’ “Titans of Africa” card was a personal redemption. Having previously suffered a loss on the same stage, Van Heerden came back with focus and fire, showcasing powerful combinations, devastating body shots, and precision uppercuts that echoed through the arena. Every punch spoke volumes, he was not just back, he was better than ever.

With an amateur record of over 70 bouts and six South African championship titles, he made a powerful transition into the professional arena. His current pro record stands at 10 wins, 3 losses and 7 knockouts. He holds the titles of Gauteng Middleweight Champion and, as of July 2025, the African Boxing Union (ABU) Middleweight Champion.
Recognized for his potential and perseverance, Van Heerden was also awarded Prospect of the Year.
